Pursuing God

Pursuing God  Dr. R. C. Sproul Albert Einstein was once asked by a student, “Dr. Einstein, how many feet are there in a mile?” To the utter astonishment of the student, Einstein replied, “I don’t know.” The student was sure the great professor was joking. Surely Einstein would know a simple fact that every schoolchild is required to memorize. But Einstein wasn’t joking. When the student pressed for an explanation of this gap in Einstein’s knowledge, he declared, “I make it a rule not to clutter my mind with simple information that I can find in a book in five minutes.” Einstein was not interested in trivial data. His passion was to explore the deep things of the universe. His passion for mathematical and physical truth made him a pivotal fixture in modern world history. We are called to similar passion, a passion to know God. A thirst for the knowledge of God should drive us to drink deeply at the fountain of Scripture. We are equipped with more than en...

The Sovereignty of God and Prayer

The Sovereignty of God and Prayer John Piper   I am often asked, "If you believe God works all things according to the counsel of his will (Ephesians 1:11) and that his knowledge of all things past, present, and future is infallible, then what is the point of praying that anything happen?" Usually this question is asked in relation to human decision: "If God has predestined some to be his sons and chosen them before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4,5), then what's the point in praying for anyone's conversion?"    The implicit argument here is that if prayer is to be possible at all man must have the power of self-determination. That is, all man's decisions must ultimately belong to himself, not God. For otherwise he is determined by God and all his decisions are really fixed in God's eternal counsel. Let's examine the reasonableness of this argument by reflecting on the example cited above. 1. "Why pray...

HAVE FAITH: Without Faith It Is Impossible To Please God

HAVE FAITH Without Faith It Is Impossible To Please God Faith is one area that in the Bible we are encouraged to hold fast onto. The Bible tells us; “But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].” (Hebrews 11:6 AMP) “But the just shall live by faith [My righteous servant shall live by his conviction respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, and holy fervor born of faith and conjoined with it]; and if he draws back and shrinks in fear, My soul has no delight or pleasure in him.” (Hebrews 10:38 AMP) In Hebrews 11:6 and 10:38 it is very plain that without faith you cannot please God and God will not have pleasure in you. This means that walking out of (not in) faith is very displeasing to God. Jesus rebuked the people for their faithlessness, and rebuked Hi...

Living To Please God: Giving Your Best To God

“Try to learn what pleases the LORD.” (Ephesians 5:10 GNB) Praise the LORD! It is my prayer that having done all, at the end of my time here on earth, Father God will be proud of me and to say to me “ Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:” (Matthew 25:34 Webster) It is so sad that people put more of their efforts on things which do not last; vain things, things which are seen and do not last, being temporary. We live our lives trying so hard to please everybody, trying to please people, and the truth is we will never be able to enough please everybody. We can never fully enough please the people around us that we live with or that we meet in everyday of our lives. Like a servant who by all means work to the best of his ability to please his master but to his surprise ends up being considered as lazy in the eyes of his master, as one who does nothing at all, so are we (children of God) in this world when we target to...

MY TESTIMONY - HOW THE LORD HEALED ME

On the morning of the 5th of October when I woke up I felt lots of pain all over my body, and I felt weak at the same time. I couldn't explain what the cause was, since the previous day all was very fine, no sign of any nature could have led to these. I felt a chest pain that translated into so much pain when I would cough. When I would go out to go I will feel very tired; I couldn't walk for a long distance, and I would already have to sit for a while. I felt cold too; I had, at one time, to sit in a scorching heat of the sun, while others wondered what my problem was for me to sit in the heat of the scorching sun. This went on for the next three days. Suddenly my voice was altered. I could hardly speak well as I used to. My voice was almost gone. I cried to God and wondered "What had happened to me?" "Lord please heal me now, today" I cried out to my Lord Jesus. Although it seemed as if He didn't act I knew my God promised to heal me. He promised t...

The Four Enemies of Learning

1) Indiscipline Be not deceived: Evil companionships corrupt good morals. 1Corinthians 15:33 (NLT) People who despise advice are asking for trouble; those who respect a command will succeed. Proverbs 13:13 (NLT) If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding. Proverbs 15:32 (NLT) Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them. Proverbs 13:24 (NLT) To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.   Proverbs 12:1 (NLT) A wise child accepts a parent’s discipline, a mocker refuses to listen to correction. Proverbs 13:1 (NLT) A youngster’s heart is filled with foolishness but physical discipline will drive it far away. Proverbs 22:15 (NLT) Don’t fail to discipline your children. They won’t die if you spank them. Physical discipline may well save them from death. Proverbs 23:13-14 (NLT) Do not be part of the group of learners wh...
